Beware of Junk Foods Being Promoted As Health Food-HFCS is Not Healthy

Tollie-Beware of Junk Foods Being Promoted As Health Food – HFCS is Not Healthy

Also, we are in the process of a complete overhaul of some of our sites into one hub. A Dream-Infused world. Here is one piece of the new site, let me know what you think! Take a look.

You may have seen a whole new slew of advertisements online and on television trying to revamp the poor image of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). They are basically trying to promote this junk food additive as “healthy”.

The advertising campaigns don’t come right out and make the claim that high fructose corn syrup is “health food”, but they do try to get clever and fool people into thinking that it’s not bad for your health. In fact, they make these misleading claims:

“It’s all natural”

“It’s no worse for you than table sugar”

“It’s made from corn”

“It has the same calories as table sugar”

As you can see, these ads are trying to deceive us into thinking that HFCS isn’t so bad after all… I mean, they do say that it’s “all natural” and “made from corn”. These ads are pure sleaze!

In my opinion, these ads are highly immoral. For one, as if our nation, and the world for that matter, wasn’t already suffering an obesity epidemic, as well as skyrocketing degenerative diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Now, they’re trying to make matters worse by fooling innocent people into thinking that high fructose corn syrup is somehow healthy. Meanwhile, as society and our kids get fatter and more unhealthy, they’re lining their pockets with massive profits since HFCS is in the majority of processed food.

As for their claim that HFCS is “no worse for you than sugar”… I’m not even going to discuss any of the science about how HFCS affects the leptin and insulin process in your body, your blood sugar process, appetite levels, etc. Instead, I want to make a more important point:

Who cares if HFCS is “no worse for you than sugar”… because sugar is one of the worst things you can ingest in your body anyway, so it is not even a valid argument!

The point you need to understand is that if you want to be lean and healthy for life, you should be minimizing, or even eliminating all sugar and high fructose corn syrup. In fact, most processed food should be eliminated altogether if you want to be serious about getting lean.

As for their claim that HFCS is “all-natural”… don’t even get me started! It’s just a ridiculous statement to begin with. I don’t care if you call it “natural” or artificial, the bottom line is that it’s a highly processed, refined substance that makes you fat!

So the next time you’re thinking about drinking that can of soda, or eating that candy bar or cupcakes, just think about how that is only going directly against your efforts to lose body fat and can even lead to other health problems in excess.

Create a Dream Infused World and Master Your Mind For Greatness

Create a Dream Infused World and Master Your Mind For Greatness

If you are not living a life of passion, and infinite dreams, you need to master your mind’s greatness. If you only remember pain and hurt, and this is affecting your relationships, you need to master your mind’s greatness. Within you is passion ready to create your dream-infused life!

The dream-infused, model of change that I teach is very different from the one used in many schools of therapy. The therapeutic norm, a parody of assorted schools, is so proverbial that it’s become something of a cultural totem. A large number of therapists believe that in order to change, you have to go back to deep-seated negative experiences and experience them again.

The idea is that people have negative experiences in life that build up inside them like mucus, until finally there’s no more room and they burst or overflow. The only way to get in touch with this process, the therapists say, is to re-experience the events and pain all over again and then to try to let it go once and for all.

Everything in my experience tells me that is one of the least effective ways to help people with their problems. In the first place, when you ask people to go back and re-experience some terrible trauma, you’re putting them into the most painful, least resourceful state they can be in. If you put someone in an un-resourceful state, their chances of producing new resourceful behaviors and results are greatly diminished. Why are there so many boxes of tissue in a therapist office?

In fact, this approach may even reinforce the painful or un-resourceful pattern. By, continually accessing neurological states of limitation and pain, it becomes much easier to trigger these states in the future. The more you relive an experience, the more likely you are to use it again. Maybe that’s why so many traditional therapies take so long to produce results.

In fact, by mastering a simple understanding of how your brain works, you can become your own therapist; you unlock your inner greatness. You can go beyond therapy to being able to change any feeling, emotion, or behavior for yourself in a matter of moments.

Producing powerful effective results begins, I believe, with creating a new model for the process of change. If you believe your problems store up inside you until they overflow, that’s exactly what you’ll experience. Instead of all the pain building up like some lethal fluid, I see our neurological activity as more like a dream world.

What really happens is that human beings keep having experiences that are being photographed. We store them in the brain like pages of a photo album. As with the photos of an album, our memories in pictures can be played back at any time if the right stimulus in our environment is triggered, if the right photo is displayed.

So we can choose to remember our experiences and create photos that recall “dreams” of happiness and joy, or we can have a nightmare that creates pain. If your therapeutic plan involves an album of nightmares that creates pain time and time again, you may be reinforcing the very negative state you wish to change.

I think you need to do something completely different. Perhaps you could simply enhance your photo album so it creates a completely dream-infused world. You capture the same image, but instead of recalling the sad moment, it brings up an ecstatic one instead. Or else you could create a new photo journey, with only the memories you feel in your dreams.

The point is, the photos that aren’t being displayed are not going to build up and explode. That’s absurd. And just as it’s a simple procedure to reorganize a photo album, it’s easy to change the ways we produce un-resourceful feelings and emotions.

Your memories are nothing more than photo’s in an album. The feeling you captured as you remember it, because, someone else can look at the same photo and feel a completely opposite emotion. You are the photographer; within your photos are dreams, or nightmares. Create a dream-infused world; re-organize your album to only feel passion and love. You have greatness inside of you, because you do live in a dream world, where everything can change in an instant, as long as you’ve been visualizing!

Do You Have Any Idea What Is Hidden In Your Favorite Energy Drink Most Teens Don’t

Teens Do You Have Any Idea What Is Hidden In Your Favorite Drink?

Addicted to your morning coffee, or afternoon RockStar? Whether it’s hidden calories, caffeine, or sugar, do you know what’s in your favorite drink? For the typical teen, the answer is, “Good Stuff”?

It’s never too early for Diet Pepsi at least according to seventeen-year-old Rachel, who pops one open each weekday morning at 7:00 A.M. “I keep cans or 24-ounce bottles in my car for the ride to school, ” says the Maryland resident, who downs at least five bottles throughout the day. “I’m obsessed with the taste, and I’m a typical teen girl watching her weight and dieting.”

Randee, a seventeen-year-old from Idaho, gulps down 44 ounces (more than three can’s worth) of Dr. Pepper with every school lunch for a mid-afternoon energy kick. Randee also feels she makes up for the calories by not eating, as a self-proclaimed Pro-Anorexic Teen. “Last year, I drank three 44-ounce cups a day,” she admits.

Alex’s beverage of choice, SoBe’s No Fear Gold, with its 174 milligrams of caffeine per can, it helps him stay awake at night so that he can study. “I’m an enormous energy-drink junkie! I also stockpile my mini-fridge with Tab,” says the Northwestern University freshman.

No matter what time of day, one thing’s for certain: Teens love sugar-saturated beverages and caffeine-packed drinks. But what’s really in that giant thirst quencher?

If you’ve just knocked back your second Sprite or Snapple of the day, you’ve loaded up on extra sugar that may contribute to weight gain. A twelve-ounce can of regular soda contains about ten teaspoons of sugar and 150 calories. If you drink four of those a day, that leads to an additional 4,200 calories a week, enough to gain one pound!

I have been asking this question lately, as I speak to so many different teenagers about their daily habits. Usually they say, “Tollie it’s not a big deal, it’s just a drink”. True, however this is the purpose for writing this article. Since, Teens nowadays struggle with a list of body image issues, it’s little things we don’t think about. Same as an anorexic teen, who only lives on sugar spikes, and the teen who can’t lose weight and is always on a diet.

Avid soda fans (both regular and diet drinkers alike) are also at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis later in life, say experts. “Soda has replaced low-fat milk in the American diet for teens, who are in the most important years of their lives for getting calcium for development of peak bone mass,” notes Keri Gans, R.D., a New York City-based nutritionist. Recent research also suggests that certain ingredients in cola may be associated with lower bone-mineral density in adult women.

And while substituting soda with your favorite fruit juice or smoothie may seem like a healthy solution, teen diet fact: A twelve-ounce serving of orange or apple juice actually contains more calories than the same amount of cola or sports drink. Now teens dieting, juice can be healthy, but only in small amounts. For instance, at Jamba Juice, a sixteen-ounce cup (the smallest size available) of “Strawberries Wild” is packed with vitamin C, body-friendly fiber, and a whopping 290 calories. Smoothies are often made with a whole-fat yogurt and added juices. So, sure your getting calcium and fruit. But, you can also get extra calories from the sugar, and, in many cases, fat.
Similarly, blended coffee drinks sometimes contain flavored syrups and whole-fat milk that can dramatically boost your calorie intake. And they can come with another not-so-healthy bonus: excessive caffeine. Caffeine increases blood flow to, and pressure on the heart. If you’re taking in more than 200 mg [roughly the amount in two cups of coffee] a day, it can lead to insomnia, heart palpitations, high blood pressure-possibly even seizures. Caffeine is extremely addictive and the withdrawal headaches you can get are very painful.

So, what’s the best way to start drinking smart? Take it one step at a time. If you’re drinking three sodas a day, cut down by one and replace it with water, it’s the best drink for you. Plus, don’t forget to fuel up with breakfast every morning. Seriously, if your dieting, watching your weight, how are you going to kick your metabolism into gear with out fuel?

It’s not coffee that you need to get going; it’s breakfast, and not one that is handed through a window. If you can’t bear to sacrifice your latte, choose the smallest size, and skip the syrups and whip cream. Think of smoothies as a desert, not a daily beverage, and ask that yours be made with low-fat yogurt or skim milk. And instead of having another glass of super sweet juice, go for fiber-rich fresh fruit. We have an obesity epidemic on our hands, and unhealthy beverages are definitely a part of it. You can have a soda or Starbucks. But remember moderation is the key, and knowing what’s entering your body.

Cutting out sugar filled drinks can help overweight teens shed about a pound a month. This is a significant, amount from a drink. Who ever knew a drink could stop you from empowering your greatness for a dream-infused life.

Who Wants To Be Famous? All Teens Casting Your Greatest Life Story Now

Who Wants To Be Famous? All Teens Casting Your Greatest Life Story Now By: Tollie

With the onslaught of so-called reality shows, the Internet, and tabloids by the scores, most teens surveyed want to be famous. Teen targeted shows have become huge for networks. Because, they know they’re demographic target audience. Teenagers will watch what they inspire to become, everyone wants to be famous, right?

A recent Psychology Today survey showed that 31 percent of American teens believe they’ll be famous one day. When Hollis, now eighteen, was a freshman entering New York City’s LaGuardia School of Performing Arts, she envisioned being famous by the end of senior year. “I wanted to be a superstar!” she says.

According to psychologist Karen Zager, Ph.D., coauthor of The Inside Story on Teen Girls (American Psychological Association), spotlight seeking is nothing new; it’s the accessibility that’s changed. “Years ago, girls worshipped stars from afar. Today, they have more intimate access to the celebrity experience through tabloids, the Internet, and T.V. Celebrities’ lives feel much closer to their own.”

And with the explosion of the reality genre, it isn’t as hard to get airtime as it used to be. In many cases, talent-based reality shows end up catapulting undeniably gifted contestants, like singing sensation Carrie Underwood, to insta-stardom.

But what about stars that become famous on documentary, style reality shows, like My Super Sweet 16’s Sophie (she of the over the top Moulin Rouge soiree)? Sophie says she’s regularly mobbed in the mall and admits that her friends tell her, “Omigod, you’re a celebrity now!”

In Hollis’s opinion, “You don’t need talent to be famous anymore. The Laguna Beach kids were just living their lives, and now they’re stars. Role models, even.” In fact Lauren Conrad became such a breakout star on Laguna that she landed her own spin-off series, The Hills.

So why do so many girls endeavor to live their lives in front of a lens? “Teens look up to famous people and say, “If she can do it, so can I,” says Zager. In fact, a survey of 653 middle school students by writer Jake Halpern, author of Fame Junkies (Houghton Mifflin), showed that those who watch celebrity, oriented TV are more likely to believe they’ll be stars one day, too.

But what does it take to be famous these days? For many girls, it’s all about online presence. Singing sensation Cassie hit it big after putting her music on MySpace; YouTube’s fictional video blog, Lonelygirl15, landed unknown actress Jessica Rose a spot in a Lindsay Lohan film.

The Internet allows potential superstars to broadcast their talents online to an audience of millions, and these days, the best casting agents, talent scouts, and record company execs are paying attention.

Giselle agrees that these sites “get tons of people talking about you. If you’re a performer, you can network with industry people. It’s how people get discovered now.”

The Internet works not only as a launching pad for those with dreams of performing careers, but for regular teens, too, some of who have found fame simply by being themselves. Nineteen-year-old Casey Lewis, a magazine journalism major at University of Missouri, was profiled in Newsweek thanks to the popularity of her fashion-savvy blog, TeenFashionista.

“It’s such a rush knowing that someone across the World could be reading what you write,” says nineteen-year-old Mikael, from New York City, who posts regularly on her own MySpace blog.

In some cases, teens have become cyber-celebrities by uploading videos of them-selves participating in illegal or dangerous acts, like doing drugs or beating up classmates. The problem is, misbehaving online could possibly lead to criminal prosecution (as well as creating a record of bad judgment that future employers can easily find.)

But achieving lasting fame is a lot more complicated than landing a reality show or boasting a million MySpace friends. Victoria Asness, a casting director who has worked with MTV’s Made. Says, “At the end of the day, very few people have the special quality it takes to hold an audience’s attention. Maybe one person out of 400.”

Fourteen-year-old Virginia born Broadway actress Brynn Williams agrees that showbiz is cutthroat. “I may seem really successful for my age, but people are always shocked at how many roles I haven’t gotten.”

If you’re truly obsessed with becoming a household name, industry experts like Asness agree that it pays to stay focused on your aspirations, but with perspective:

“Cultivate your talent, take lessons, practice. But most of all, do well in school and live your life. Nothing’s more important.” -Tia Williams

Snow Storm It’s Just Another Teen Party Drug Or Is It The Rise Of Cocaine

Posted by Dreamer On March - 25 - 2009 Comments

Snow Storm It’s Just Another Teen Party Drug Or Is It By: Tollie Schmidt

Powder room coke may not seem like a big deal, but it’s linked to strokes, heart attacks, aneurysms, and cardiac arrest. Uncovering some dangerous truths, about the party drug addicting so many teenagers.

It was a typical Friday night for Mary and her friends. They were bored, tipsy, and couldn’t think of anything to do. So the sixteen-year-old and her companions decided to buy some cocaine. “It started out as experimentation. But the second I tried it, I loved it,” recalls Mary, now eighteen. Her use quickly escalated to serious proportions. She did lines before, at, and after school, and even during work. “I was doing an eight ball [a three-and-a-half gram dose about the size of a teaspoon] a day, and up to five grams a day on weekends,” she says. And even though Mary wanted to stop, she couldn’t give up the habit. Within months, she checked into an intensive rehabilitation center to help her with her addiction.

Cocaine, an illegal and highly addictive stimulant derived from a plant, is nothing new (it’s been used since the 1800’s), but the age at which teens are using it definitely is. According to fifteen-year-old Alisse, “It’s as common now as drinking and smoking. Even when I was in eighth grade, people were doing it.” Cole Rucker, the cofounder and CEO of Echo Malibu, a California rehabilitation center for teenagers, agrees: “Nowadays, we treat girls as young as twelve.”

One major factor might be the alleged popularity of the drug among celebrities. “People say famous girls do it, which makes it seem acceptable,” says sixteen-year-old Eloise, from New Jersey. Adds 20-year-old New York resident Audrey, “Teens think that since IT girls use coke, it’ll make them cool, too.” This isn’t the first time that cocaine has been perceived as glamorous. Cocaine was popular during the seventies and eighties. People used it when they were in social situations because it made them feel like they could talk to anyone.
Other teens cite their growing responsibilities as a trigger for cocaine use. “Some think coke is a good way to relax,” says Rucker. In fact, it does just the opposite, causing blood pressure to raise, the heart to beat irregularly, and blood vessels to constrict. Rucker also points to the easy availability of cocaine as part of its appeal. As Cleo, from New York, attests, “I’m seventeen and I could make a phone call now and get any drug I wanted within a half hour.”

Because cocaine has a reputation as a “party drug,” many teens think it’s no big deal-and don’t realize how addictive it is. The body can easily develop a tolerance to the drug (causing the user to desire larger and larger quantities). Many teens start out trying it casually, but it becomes the center of their lives. They steal, trade sex, or forfeit relationships just for some white powder.

Health wise, the damage cocaine causes can be devastating. “Users can feel a surge in the heart, bloodstream, and brain,” says M. Steven Sager, M.D., medical director of Echo Malibu. “There have been occurrences of people going into cardiac arrest, seizures, and strokes after trying the drug just once.” Teens think the damage that can occur to the brain and body may be negligible (since it’s not always immediately visible), says Sager, until they witness the repercussions the drug can have on their looks: “Young women come in who have holes in the septum of their noses from chronic use. Some times the cartilage just caves in, resulting in a squashed look.”

It may seem obvious, but the best way to protect yourself from addiction is to avoid cocaine altogether. Mary, for her part, wouldn’t wish her struggles on anyone: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but I’m shocked that it didn’t kill me,” she says. “I hope people will take my word for it. I’m only eighteen, and I’ve already been through the hardest years of my life.”

Something I told Mary I want to share with you. She told me she has already been through the hardest times of her life. Good, because the fact is she has moved past these past experiences. Today, those past pains do not determine who she is now or what she will accomplish. Mary does see a counselor to talk with about her past addiction and lifestyle. One area of the treatment process for many counselors is constantly focusing on those past events. I personally strongly disagree; however, I would never interfere, with someone’s choice.

I simply told Mary, if constantly reminding yourself of pain, hurt, disappointment is making you a stronger person today, then counseling is great. However, I would forgive yourself and not attach anymore-negative thoughts, feelings, and actions to situations in the past, which have absolutely no significance on today, unless you let them. Mary, empower your personal greatness and live a dream-infused life!

The One Fat You Should Be Eating In Your Diet Olive Oil A Healthy Fat

The One Fat You Should Be Eating In Your Diet

Drizzle olive oil over just about everything, for flavor and your health.

One of the most common diet mistakes made is passing on full-fat vinaigrette in favor of fat-free salad dressing. Fat helps your body absorb the nutrients from lettuce and other vegetables and also improves satiety (which means having a salad for lunch really will keep you full until dinner). But you’ll do your body the biggest favor if you opt for a dressing made with olive oil. Yes, it’s high in calories and fat (120 calories and 14 grams of fat per tablespoon), but studies found it protects against heart disease. And no one is saying you should pour with abandon. Drizzling on salads, steamed vegetables, pasta, and even meats-is the appropriate method. Here’s a quick lesson on which olive oil to choose and how to work it into your diet without packing on the pounds.

Opt for extra virgin this is the best quality and most flavorful type of olive oil. It contains more polyphenols-antioxidents that help protect against heart disease and cancer-than other kinds of olive oil and other oils high in heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, such as canola oil. A recent report in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that people whose diet included one to two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil a day showed a 1.74 mg/dl increase in their good (HDL) cholesterol levels. (Other studies show that every one-point rise in HDL reduces heart-disease risk by 2 to 3 percent.)

Experiment to find your favorite. As with wine, the flavor of olive oil depends on several factors-the areas where the olives are grown, the variety of the olive, and the stage of ripeness when the olives are picked. They can be fruity, peppery, or smooth and buttery. Try brands from a few different locations-Tuscany, Spain, Greece, California, France, and even Chile-to find the kind you prefer.

Buy small amounts. Those big cans do seem like a bargain, but olive oil can go rancid in a few months, even if it’s properly stored. Olive oil has three enemies: heat, light, and oxygen. Choose a brand that comes in a dark bottle or a can, and store it in a cool, dry place.

Limit your intake: Research shows that one-tablespoon a day is enough to improve your health. Use olive oil in place of other fats, like butter or mayonnaise, and try it in recipes where it plays a starring role.

Decoding the name game: Cold pressed: means no heat is used to extract the oil from the olives; heat breaks down the flavor. Extra virgin, has the most antioxidants and a low acidity level. Fino, is a blend of extra-virgin and virgin oils. Light, refers to flavor, not calories or fat. Unfiltered, contains small particles of olives. Virgin has a slightly higher acidity level than extra virgin.

Yes, there is such a thing as good and healthy fats. Fats are very important for your body, skin, and heart. Olive oil is a great source of heart healthy fat fighting nutrients for your body.

Slimming Down And Losing Weight Dieting? Time For A Little Buddy Fitness Tip

Posted by Dreamer On March - 24 - 2009 Comments

I have noticed the gym becoming a little busier lately. Although, I don’t personally train people anymore I still get a lot of questions. So, since the spike in gym activity might be because summer is right around the corner, here is a tip. Find a little buddy and together have some fun at the gym.

Tollie Schmidt lived his life as the fat kid. His weight reached over 500 pounds. Losing over 300 pounds of fat, Tollie struggled with bulimia and became a personal trainer. Today, Tollie’s a highly sought after International Speaker, Author, Producer and Dreamer. Today our Youth have a voice for change. (Empowering Greatness for a Dream-Infused Life).

You may not have set any exercise goals back in January, but chances are you will now, what with summer and more revealing clothes, right around the corner. One strategy that can help you get in shape fast while upping the fun factor. Find a workout partner. It makes you accountable to someone, so you’re more apt to show up; it helps you pass the time on the treadmill; it can prompt you to push yourself. To maximize your workout relationships, follow my little buddy tips.

Choose the right person. Whether it’s a friend, a relative, or a member of your running club, look for someone who’s excited about working out and who seems knowledgeable about fitness. Notice I didn’t mention exercising with your boyfriend or girlfriend. Generally, I don’t think it’s wise to work out with your significant other. Hitting the gym at the same time is fine, but in my experience, coaching each other can cause more conflict than it’s worth.

Use your partner for strength and flexibility moves. Sure, they can spot you on the chest press, but put them to work! Toss a medicine ball to each other, grab tubing and let the other person provide extra resistance, or work your abs using the medicine ball as resistance, force, and weight. Many exercises can be used with a medicine ball and your little buddy, and they’re killer, you will feel your results.

Challenge each other on cardio machines. Notice I said challenge, don’t talk to someone else on the phone, or text, because all your doing is really annoying people like myself. Take turns doing intervals, you rest while they sprint. Or grab a hold of side-by-side rowing machines and race each other to see whom finishes 500 meters first. This is an ideal opportunity to push your limits and have some friendly competition spur you on.

Play follows the leader. Oh how I never was good at this little game. Tired of thinking of new routines every time you go to the gym? Let your little buddy do it for you. Ask them to pick the workout you’ll both do, or you lead a set of one weight move and have her lead the next exercise.

Use each other for inspiration. Talk about the changes you’re seeing to encourage the other person. Or use your partner’s good results to fuel your motivation. Just remember, you’re not competing to see who gets the best body.

Let your friend be strong when your not. If you go out for a post-workout dinner and are tempted by the fettuccine Alfredo, let her order something healthy for you. I used to do this for a lot of my old clients. However, eating a big meal after a strenuous workout is not the best idea.

Push Your Fitness Limits And Use Your Body’s Natural Turbochargers For Teens

Conventional wisdom has long held that lactic acid is a metabolic scourge, bringing hard exercise stints to a screeching halt and causing next day soreness. Recent research shows how wrong that lie is: Not only does lactate have nothing to do with the burn, it’s actually a secret source of fuel that can help anyone turbo charge his workout.

Tollie’s Personal Site

When athletes are training to push up their lactate threshold, what they’re really doing is training their bodies to use lactate as fuel. Improving that threshold is crucial.

Swimming: Fast laps can sabotage form in the water, so the challenge is maintaining efficiency at high intensities. Find your threshold: Warm up for 5 minutes, then do this 500-meter test. Start off at a pace you can hold for more than 500 meters, but build gradually so that your last 100 is at 90 percent effort. Count your strokes per pool length in the first and last 100 meters. Improve your threshold: Swim 100-yard repeats for 20 minutes, resting after each for one quarter of your swim time. Swim at the fastest pace that allows you to keep a stroke per pool length count of one or two strokes below your count in the final 100 yards of your test.

Cycling: Find your threshold using a heart-rate monitor, perform two 3 mile time trials on flat roads, riding as fast as you can. Multiply the higher average heart rate by 0.92 and 0.95 to find the ideal range to boost your lactate threshold. So, if your heart rate was 185, your lactate threshold training range is 170 to 176. Improve your threshold: Lactate threshold intervals below 6 minutes have less training benefits. Start with three 6-minute stints, each followed by 6 minutes of active rest (relax but keep moving). As you can, tack on 60-second blocks to each interval, eventually adding a fourth block. If you reach 10 minutes, retest.

Running: A higher lactate threshold increases the pace you can sustain over short to midrange distances, powers you over hills, and adds kick to your sprint. Find your threshold: Warm up, then run 5 kilometers at race pace. If you finish in 15 to 19 minutes, your threshold pace should be 25 to 30 seconds slower per mile than your 5k pace; 20 to 24 minute finishes put your lactate threshold pace at 20 to 25 seconds slower; and 25 to 30 minutes, or if you’re a beginner, 5 to 10 seconds per mile slower. Improve your threshold: Run four 1-mile segments at lactate threshold training pace with 60 seconds rest. Perform the 5k tests again after 8 weeks.

Start your engines: Your body draws its fuel, ATP, from three energy systems at any given time.

Aerobic System: This slow-burning fuel system is your primary supply during regular exercise. ATP comes from the breakdown of fats, blood glucose, and glycogen, using oxygen as part of a chain reaction to clear waste.

Anaerobic System (ATP-CP): This short-term oxygen-free process fuels normal movement and sudden, intense bursts of strength. The boost from ATP and creatine phosphate (CP), which are stored in the muscles, lasts only 7 to 10 seconds.

Anaerobic Lactate System: This high-intensity, oxygen-free process breaks down glucose. Lactate is formed from a by-product and can be used inside the mitochondria (the cells’ energy producers) as an additional fuel source.

Tap into your body’s natural turbo chargers with these three plans. Push your self-imposed limits and release your greatness. Learn a little everyday about how your body truly functions. Learning your bodies endless limits, and amazing capabilities, you enable yourself to see the junk many diet plans try to offer. Within you is a sleeping giant, unleashing passion and greatness is within your control. At anytime, you can choose to be great and live with no limits. So, what will you choose for today? Thinspiration: I Will Always Be Fat, Yes, Because Now The World Is Your Mirror And Reality

One major theme I always see with eating disorders and teen anorexia is the non-stop self inflicted mental torture teens place on them. I get it, I was there, weighing over 500 pounds, and all I could see is disgust.

Today, I love who I am, not just physically but more importantly mentally. Still, when I face rejection I have that moment of self-doubt. However, I see that moment for what it truly is, a single moment in time. A single moment I placed a feeling, which I have attached and allowed. Truth is everyone at some point has insecure thoughts about their image. I have been around some of the most beautiful women, handsome men and still they have moments of doubt.

However, today I have never felt more powerful, believed in others and myself as strongly as I do today. This inner greatness, as I call it, is your true self worth, beauty, image, and sex appeal. Because, when I am around physically desirable people, I just see a person, and I remain myself. I have nothing to prove, nothing to hide, and no reason to not be fully confident in any situation. I know this because of The Law of Attraction and my faith in God has shown me the true power to over come an eating disorder. It also has shown me I become more desirable to others because of the pure energy, happiness, and unselfish Love I project. See, people say it’s being cocky, nope just confidence and allowing my greatness to project through my dreams.

You need to become aware of the negative thoughts surrounding you about weight. “If I eat that, I’ll get fat.” “Obesity is genetic and can’t be controlled.”It’s hard to lose weight.” Now, these extremely common statements and regularly accepted “facts” are part of the root cause of teens and adults, obesity problems. What we accept, we allow. What we believe is.

If you have accepted that eating certain foods will make you fat, and then proceed to eat them because you like them, you may expect to grow fat. If you accept that obesity is genetic, you will not attempt to lose weight. You won’t even try to envision your new body you deserve. If you accept that losing weight is difficult, as almost anyone will happily tell you, then you are agreeing that your path to losing weight must be difficult, if not impossible.

Step back and take a good hard look at your beliefs about diet, exercise, and weight. Do you believe that because you are a couch potato or a computer geek, your lack of exercise will cause you to become fat? Then don’t be surprised when it happens. Do you believe that eating the large fries instead of small is going to probably make you fat? You’re probably already gaining weight. Our beliefs, thoughts and expectations firmly dictate our reality. So if you want to change your reality, first you need to change your thoughts.

This world of solid matter is not nearly as solid as it appears. This world is in fact woven from a maelstrom of subatomic particles, whizzing and whirling around, inhabiting less than 1% of all space. These particles can simply blink in and out of existence and teleport from one spot to another. That’s not science fiction – that’s science fact.

Let’s take it up a few levels, and you have the human cells. Most of the cells in your body die and are replaced fairly frequently. These cells grow according to what you place in your body and what nutrients they are given or deprived of. If you begin a healthy lifestyle now, the potential for fast bodily change is very real, but you must be aware that this is possible, otherwise you are going to fall back onto the old stockpile belief of “losing weight is hard“.

Your thoughts can easily manipulate your reality, and what could you possibly have more control over than your own physical body, the one apparatus in the physical world with which you do not appear to have a disconnect? (All disconnection from the external world is false, but appears to be real).

The most important thing in weight loss is your mental bodily image. Every day you look at yourself in the mirror. While staring at yourself you snarl at your weight. You groan that you do not look the way you want to. You twist, turn and contort yourself and look with disgust at the part or parts of your body that you are unhappy with. This is feeding negative energy into your bodily image, and that’s exactly what you will attract – more things to feel disgusted with about your body.

When you see yourself in the mirror, stop judging yourself and begin loving yourself. That body carries you around, and you should be grateful that you have one at all! Fully accept your body as it is right now, and decide that you would like to change it in order to give yourself a happier, healthier existence. Again, accept your body in the mirror, and stop snarling and judging yourself. When you love your body, then naturally your body will feel better and will become healthier. As this happens your body will naturally shift to fit the image that you are holding in your mind: a healthier, thinner body. You will never lose weight while you judge yourself fat. That is rule number 1, and unfortunately that is the rule that 99% of people break from the get-go.

Because of all the teenagers I have spoke to struggling with Anorexia let me take this one step further. Think about this, I have hugged skeletons looking for hope, feeling pressure from ribs pressed against my body. I see emptiness, pain, with no life, inside a skeletal body. You look in the mirror you see nothing but fat. So, can you see how distorted the mirror truly is. Anorexia is a mirror affect; you only see fat, pain, and misery. Anorexia takes more of a mental control and now the world becomes the mirror. You don’t see the beauty, feel the laughter or love, because the world is your mirror, and your thoughts. Because, the world is your mirror and thoughts all you see and feel is what you project.

Why Excess Abdominal Fat Is More DEADLY Than You Think

Posted by Dreamer On March - 19 - 2009 Comments

Did you know that the vast majority of people in this day and age have excess abdominal fat

Below is an article contributed by Mike Geary, the founder of TruthAboutAbs.com. I thought this was an important topic to share with you because the reality is that most people simply don’t realize how dangerous their excess abdominal fat really is to their health.

The Hidden Dangers of Your Excess Abdominal Fat – It’s More Serious Than a Vanity Issue!

by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer

Did you know that the vast majority of people in this day and age have excess abdominal fat? The first thing that most people think of is that their extra abdominal fat is simply ugly, is covering up their abs from being visible, and makes them self conscious about showing off their body.

However, what most people don’t realize is that excess abdominal fat in particular, is not only ugly, but is also a dangerous risk factor to your health. Scientific research has clearly demonstrated that although it is unhealthy in general to have excess body fat throughout your body, it is also particularly dangerous to have excess abdominal fat.

There are two types of fat that you have in your abdominal area. The first type that covers up your abs from being visible is called subcutaneous fat and lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles.

The second type of fat that you have in your abdominal area is called visceral fat, and that lies deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. Visceral fat also plays a role in giving certain men that “beer belly” appearance where their abdomen protrudes excessively but at the same time, also feels sort of hard if you push on it.

Both subcutaneous fat and visceral fat in the abdominal area are serious health risk factors, but science has shown that having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. Both of them greatly increase the risk your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, various forms of cancer, and other degenerative diseases.

Part of the reason visceral fat is particularly dangerous is that it apparently releases more inflammatory molecules into your body on a consistent basis.

If you care about the quality of your life and your loved ones, reducing your abdominal fat should be one of your TOP priorities! There’s just no way around it. Besides, a side-effect of finally getting rid of all of that excessive ugly abdominal fat is that your stomach will flatten out, and if you lose enough stomach fat, you will be able to visibly see those sexy six pack abs that everyone wants.

So what gets rid of extra abdominal fat? Is there actually a REAL solution beyond all of the gimmicks and hype that you see in ads and on commercials for “miracle” fat loss products?

The first thing you must understand is that there is absolutely NO quick fix solution. There are no pills or supplements of any sort that will help you lose your abdominal fat faster. Also, none of the gimmicky ab rockers, rollers, or ab belts will help get rid of abdominal fat either. You can’t spot reduce your stomach fat by using any of these worthless contraptions. It simply doesn’t work that way.

The ONLY solution to consistently lose your abdominal fat and keep it off for good is to combine a sound nutritious diet full of unprocessed natural foods with a properly designed strategic exercise program that stimulates the necessary hormonal and metabolic response within your body. Both your food intake as well as your training program are important if you are to get this right.

I’ve actually even seen a particular study that divided thousands of participants into a diet-only group and an exercise/diet group. While both groups in this study made good progress, the diet-only group lost significantly LESS abdominal fat than the diet & exercise combined group.

Now the important thing to realize is that just any old exercise program will not necessarily do the trick. The majority of people that attempt getting into a good exercise routine are NOT working out effectively enough to really stimulate the loss of stubborn abdominal fat. I see this everyday at the gym.

Most people will do your typical boring ineffective cardio routines, throw in a little outdated body-part style weight training, and pump away with some crunches and side bends, and think that they are doing something useful for reducing their abdominal fat. Then they become frustrated after weeks or months of no results and wonder where they went wrong.

Well, the good news is that I’ve spent over a decade researching this topic, analyzing the science, and applying it “in the trenches” with myself as well as thousands of my clients from all over the world to see what works to really stimulate abdominal fat loss.

The entire solution… all of the nutritional strategies, as well as training sequences, exercise combination’s, and more have all been compiled in my Truth About Six Pack Abs Program.
Keep in mind that the point of this whole program is NOT abdominal exercises (that is only a very small portion of it). The main point of this program is showing you the absolute most effective strategies for losing your stubborn abdominal fat, so you can get rid of that dangerous health risk, as well as get a flatter more defined midsection.

If you follow the guidelines, you WILL lose your belly fat that has been plaguing you for years. This is not guesswork… it is a proven system that works time and time again for all of my clients on every corner of the globe that actually apply the information I teach. If you apply it, the results will come. It’s really that simple.

The only reason most people fail in their fitness goals is that they have good intentions at first to adopt a new lifestyle, yet after a few weeks or months, they abandon their good intentions and slip right back into their old bad habits that gave them the excess body fat in the first place.

I want to help you succeed in finally getting rid of that extra abdominal fat that is not only UGLY, but also DANGEROUS.

Don’t waste another day allowing that nasty abdominal fat to kill your confidence as well as contribute to your risk for MAJOR diseases.

Diet Fat Loss? Stop Raiding The Fridge And Control Your Cravings

Posted by Dreamer On March - 18 - 2009 Comments

Cravings are all about blood sugar. If your levels are consistent throughout the day, your eating habits will be, too. But when you starve yourself for hours, cravings and desires call. And you will answer.

After just four hours of not eating your blood sugar can fall seriously low. So you go on the prowl, you hit the fridge, the food court, or seat cushions for carbohydrates, which will provide a quick boost.

Trouble is, fast-rising blood sugar triggers your pancreas to release a flood of insulin, a hormone that not only lowers blood sugar but also signals your body to store fat. And in about half of us, insulin tends to “overshoot,” which sends blood sugar crashing. This reinforces the binge, because it makes you crave sugar and starch again.

The most effective way to keep blood sugar in check is to avoid foods that are made with added sugar-soda, some fruit juices, and baked goods. Honestly, you can eliminate those entirely. As for foods that contain high amounts of starch-pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, or any other flour based food, yes, I’ll admit they’re delicious, and they can provide vitamins and fiber. But, you should limit yourself to 30 to 40 grams (g) of total carbohydrates at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and 10 to 20 g at any given snack. (Check Labels.)

If you are trying to shed access fat, and you have been eliminating carbohydrates, I urge you to try this. I have never been a fan of the (no-carb) diets. Basically, I see them as a true “diet”, which is only temporary and fails. Simply use carbohydrates for what they are, a energy source. As you are active through the day, choose proper and wise carbohydrates, not simple carbohydrates. Then when you are home for the evening, no longer active avoid carbohydrates. I always suggested cut out the carbohydrates after about 3 or 4 PM. You will see a dramatic drop in body fat, also a new eating life style, not diet.

Also, follow these three rules.
Eat regularly, approximately every three hours. This allows you to eat smaller meals without becoming hungry. Also, understand a meal is not three courses. A handful of nuts or similar is a meal. Think back to hunters & gatherers, just graze all day and keep your metabolism cranked on high.

Have protein and fat (meat, cheese, nuts, or eggs contain both) at every meal. This slows the digestion of carbohydrates, which helps prevent spikes in your blood sugar.

Go whole grain. Shop carefully for whole grain carbohydrates. Also, shop on a full stomach. Make sure any bread; pasta, or rice that you eat is 100 percent whole grain. Because whole grains contain fiber, their effect on your blood sugar is reduced.

If you want to create a real change in your life and achieve the body you desire, health, peak physical performance, here is a suggestion. Do not diet, fads will come and go diets will sell books. However, solid nutritional facts, knowledge of your body and how it works, will make you realize how to achieve your ultimate fitness and weight goals.

I truly recommend a book called “ The Truth About Six Pack Abs.” I read this a couple years ago and still consider the facts, and tips some of the best. Here you can visit their website. Now, go live your dreams!

Tollie Schmidt: To My Anonymous Cyber Bully

Posted by Dreamer On March - 17 - 2009 Comments

To say you have won is an understatement. However, I am at a loss of how to stop your attacks. I feel I know a couple people who could be behind this malicious attack. However, I am not able to gather the information I need before I can try and formally press charges.

Late last night early this morning you gained access to one of several social sites I am on. You used this opportunity to not attack me but much worse. You contacted a 14 Yr Old girl struggling with Anorexia, Depression and the feeling of loss and not knowing love. The words, hate you used to absolutely humiliate, degrade, and torture this young girl is inexcusable. I received the email from her mother, since I can not monitor sites 24 hours a day. Their trust in me is gone, their daughter just had one more person fail her. I can not even try to make sense right now the damage and hate you feel is necessary to penetrate hatred on me. Why?

You have maliciously attacked myself, my family, people from my past and have caused me to lose opportunities to help and serve. You have broken the law, you have broken hearts, and you have won. I may not have all the minor details I need in order to confront you yet. However, I will not tire, I will not detour, until I see you punished to the full extend of the law.

By pure compassion for any other life please stop. The people you have referenced have cut off all contact with me, partly because of this. Yes, you won, Although I had nothing to do with any of this except bear a target I am the only visible face to this hatred and they are afraid of me. We have as of today secured our personal websites and email accounts. As for all the other sites I have had the pleasure to serve in we con only do so much.

At this point, I feel closing all these accounts is the only way to protect those I care about. This decision is still weighing heavy on my heart. I have lost a couple friends, and relationships because of your attacks and I can not see how much more damage you can inflict on myself. However, that being said since you have felt the need to attack me, consider a job well done. You felt the need to “protect” others from myself. If this is truly how you feel, I urge you to stop because you are hurting those you say you care for.

Anonymous, know this, there are at times storms we all must weather. However, in God’s grace and magnificent design the graceful beauty of a Rainbow reminds us that although the storm seems unbearable, it never lasts. At the end of any storm, light pierces the clouds, and hope is restored through compassion and love. God has built me well, I will steer my course, I will be lead with a pure heart, and I will always feel the impact. You have stopped nothing, you will never fully gain control over a destiny you can not fathom. You have cost me relationships, you have cost me opportunities, you have attacked those I promise to protect. I am not the normal guy, my heart will not turn to hate, those you have further pushed away from me, at some point will allow me back in their lives. See what you don’t understand is my fairy tales are true, they are the life anyone can hold. Yes, they are dreams, however, everyone closes their eyes at night, everyone dreams. When people have me in their life, they don’t have to wait till nightfall to close their eyes and dream. Because when others allow me in their life, they live their life as a dreamer. This is something you can not stop, this is something you can not understand. This is who I am! I am a Dreamer, I am a warrior, and I will protect those I care about.

I truly feel sorry we could not discuss this. Because I believe I got this all wrong. All the things you brought up, everything about love, It didnt dawn on me till driving back in today. So, let me just leave you with this hope. You are not your mistakes, you are not your past relationships, you are worth all the love in the world once you lose the hate and give only love. I have a feeling all these things you brought up, you have had bad relationships and you can not trust. Then you hear stories of just a few things I have done, and you can not imagine doing these things if in the end they leave.

Know, this, I would do it all over again and magnify it by 500%!! Because past feelings like the ones I felt, a true once in a life time love is worth everything and so much more. Don’t play it safe, don’t listen to all the crappy advice on how the “game” is played. Lay it all out there, you get knocked down get back up dust yourself off and show more love. It is so important, I do not regret one thing in my past relationships as far as acts or things I gave. Because, you get what you give. Love is worth it, those people who bless your life are worth it and so much more. I truly feel this is the cause of all this, I would not change one thing. I would only enhance everything I do, create a larger dream, and everyday tell those you care about what they mean. I have plenty of emails from people who have followed this little advice and their life is a fairy tale come true. I have also heard from people who never believed how quickly someone can be gone, and they never took that risk, because their reality always told them, you have time, there is always tomorrow.

I saw a great quote, let me leave you with this. Dream as if you will never die…live as if it’s your last day. If this was your last day, is this how you truly want to leave? Is there someone you have felt fear to go and show love? Would you want your last day knowing a 14yr old girl is living one more day in hell? Dream as if you will never die…Live as if it’s your LAST day!

The Truth About so-called Limits Because You Have None Dream Big

Posted by Dreamer On March - 14 - 2009 Comments

Here’s the thing, Dreamers. Admission into time and space requires a belief in limits: a belief that both time and space are real; that you can therefore have and have-not; that love can be lost or found; and that you are what your physical senses show you and no more.

These illusions immediately lead you to believe that you are incomplete. Yet, far from indicating you are flawed, they reveal your brilliance by filling you with desire, igniting your emotions, fueling your passions, and catapulting you out into the world where journeys are begun, connections are made, and dreams come true… only to be replaced by new dreams as your divine sense of incompleteness persists.

This is by design, Dreamers. Feeling incomplete does not make you so. It’s how legends are born, giants are made, and history is written. It’s why you’re here. To ever so briefly escape your true identity as you live with an unquenchable thirst that will lead into adventures of grandeur, discovery, and a realization that love is all there is.

Your trusty accomplice,
