The Bulimic Diet

By: Tollie Schmidt

The crew here at Tollie International received the following question via email yesterday. Actually it is more of a statement or her resolution to use Bulimia as a diet option. Here is the question.

“Well i wanna lose weight and the only way i think would be better was
bulimia, even though i am only 16 years old i am 144 pounds. unlikes
other people they are like 100.”

Now I’m sure you think I am going to sit here and tell you why bulimia is a bad choice as a diet. However, at 16 when so many other girls her age are using bulimia as a lifestyle choice and knowing firsthand from my personal experience struggling with bulimia I know the temptation. So, let’s honestly look at bulimia and see if it sounds like a real diet option. Think about it for a moment it sounds great, we want to lose weight and be skinny yet we have no control so the idea of eating anything and then slumping over a toilet puking up a meal sounds good. C’mon talk about a guilt free meal, bring on the next course. So at this point the only down side would be the purging part of a bulimic diet right? Is there anything really bad about a bulimic diet?

Mom, Please Help – a True Anorexia – Bulimia Story

So what is Bulimia?

Bulimia Nervosa
Men and women who live with Bulimia seek out binge and purge episodes — they will eat a large quantity of food in a relatively short period of time and then use behaviors such as taking laxatives or self-induced vomiting — because they feel overwhelmed in coping with their emotions, or in order to punish themselves for something they feel they should unrealistically blame themselves for. This can be in direct relation to how they feel about themselves, or how they feel over a particular event or series of events in their lives. Those suffering with Bulimia may seek episodes of binging and purging to avoid and let out feelings of anger, depression, stress or anxiety. New research indicates that for a percentage of sufferers, a genetic predisposition may play a role in a sensitivity to develop Bulimia, with environmental factors being the trigger.

Here is my problem with the bulimic diet. Let’s say at 16 a teenage girl decides to use the bulimic diet and it works. Let’s say she loses the exact amount of weight she was looking to lose. I mean now that she has lost the amount of weight she was looking to initially lose is gone, she can just easily transition into a healthy eating lifestyle and life would be great. However, here is the problem with the bulimic diet. You may be skinny, yet I have the feeling you will and go look in the mirror and still see the original “fat” girl staring back at you and still be unhappy. See while your body may be “skinny” your mindset is still a emotional and unhappy train wreck! Because bulimia and anorexia as the two most prominent eating disorders have a common link and stem from one main mental dysfunction.

The most common element surrounding ALL Eating Disorders is the inherent presence of a low self esteem.

The bulimic diet will cause a weight loss, Yes! However a bulimic diet will also cause you to trap yourself into a further illusion of hopelessness and a self imposed hell. You will have no control over your life, because you gave up all control. You have told yourself that your are fat and disgusting and since you have no control over your life you will take the easy way and just eat and throw up. The bulimic diet is now a lifestyle because to maintain your weight you must eat and purge, eat and purge this is the only way to sustain the weight loss through a bulimic diet. However, you start gazing into the mirror and you lost all that weight, so losing more would make you feel even better right? Of course losing more weight will make things better, because your still unhappy, you still have no control over your life and your emotions because the bulimic diet has no end. The only end to the bulimic diet is being hospitalized from malnutrition or death.

Men and women suffering Bulimia are usually aware they have an eating disorder. The typical teen on the bulimic diet are fascinated by food they sometimes buy magazines and cook-books to read recipes, and enjoy discussing dieting issues.

Some of the behavioral signs can be: Recurring episodes of rapid food consumption followed by tremendous guilt and purging (laxatives or self-induced vomiting), a feeling of lacking control over his or her eating behaviors, regularly engaging in stringent diet plans and exercise, the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, and/or diet pills and a persistent concern with body image can all be warning signs someone is suffering with Bulimia. See Also, Signs and Symptoms.

“… my need to do this… it is almost instinctually protective…. a mechanism shielding out the real me in my mind… and I don’t think I even know who the real me is… ”

It is important to realize that what makes a person Bulimic — as opposed to Anorexic — is not the purging, but the cycle of binging and purging. Purging may be using laxatives or self-induced vomiting, but there are Bulimics who use other inappropriate compensatory behaviors such as compulsive exercise (ie., excessive jogging or aerobics), to attempt to burn off the calories of a binge, or fasting the day following a binge. It is not uncommon for a man or woman suffering with Bulimia to take diet pills in an attempt to keep from binging, or to use diuretics to try to lose weight. A sufferer will often hide or “store” food for later binges, will often eat secretly and can have large fluctuations in their weight.

STOP!

Right this moment imagine you have prescribed to the bulimic diet. You have given up all control in your life, you have to trust me from personal experience that when you look in the mirror you will still be unhappy. You will only feel the need to go further, lose more weight, take more pills, be even more critical of your appearance. You are now trapped in a self imposed prison of darkness and lies all be-told through an illusion of perfection.  Truth? Here are a few of the other wonderful side effects of the bulimic diet.

Chronic binging and purging leads to many health problems—some of them life-threatening. The most dangerous side effect of bulimia is dehydration due to purging. Vomiting, laxatives, and diuretics can cause electrolyte imbalances in the body, most commonly in the form of low potassium levels. Low potassium levels trigger a wide range of symptoms ranging from lethargy and cloudy thinking to irregular heartbeat and death. Chronically-low levels of potassium can also result in kidney failure.

Other common medical complications and adverse effects of bulimia include:

Source: National Women’s Health Information Center

  • Weight gain
  • Abdominal pain, bloating
  • Swelling of the hands and feet
  • Chronic sore throat, hoarseness
  • Broken blood vessels in the eyes
  • Swollen cheeks and salivary glands
  • Weakness and dizziness
  • Tooth decay and mouth sores
  • Acid reflux or ulcers
  • Ruptured stomach or esophagus
  • Loss of menstrual periods
  • Chronic constipation from laxative abuse

Throwing Monkey Wrenches Into The Bulimic Diet:

There is no single cause of bulimia. While low self-esteem and concerns about weight and body image play major roles, there are many other contributing causes, including social, psychological, and biological factors.

Major causes and risk factors for the bulimic diet include:

  • Poor body image – Our culture’s emphasis on thinness and beauty can lead to body dissatisfaction, particularly in young women bombarded with media images of an unrealistic physical ideal.
  • Low self-esteem – People who think of themselves as useless, worthless, and unattractive are at risk for bulimia. Things that can contribute to low self-esteem include depression, perfectionism, childhood abuse, and a critical home environment.
  • Dieting – People who diet are much more likely to develop an eating disorder than those who don’t. The deprivation of drastic dieting can trigger binge eating, leading to bulimia’s binge-and-purge cycle.
  • Appearance-oriented professions or activities – People who face tremendous pressure to look a certain way or stay thin are vulnerable to developing an eating disorder. Those at risk include ballet dancers, models, gymnasts, wrestlers, runners, and actors.
  • Major life changes – Bulimia is often triggered by stressful changes or transitions, such as the physical changes of puberty, going away to college, or the breakup of a relationship. Bingeing and purging may be a misguided attempt to cope with the stress.
  • Biological factors – Eating disorders run in families, indicating a genetic component. Research also shows that low levels of serotonin play a role in bulimia.

The binge and purge cycle of the bulimic diet

Bulimia’s destructive cycle of bingeing and purging is triggered by dieting. A bulimic diet is driven by a desire to be thin, people with bulimia go on strict diets. But the more rigid and restrictive the diet plan, the more preoccupied they become with food. They obsess over what, when, and how much to eat, what they shouldn’t eat, and how to avoid eating. The bulimic diet at the same time, their calorie restriction triggers physical cravings—the body’s way of asking for the nutrition it needs.

As the tension, hunger, and feelings of deprivation build, the compulsion to eat becomes too powerful to resist: a “forbidden” food is eaten; a dietary rule is broken. A bulimic diet is the all-or-nothing mindset of bulimics, any slip-up is a total failure. They’ve already blown it, so they might as well let go and enjoy an all-out binge. But the enjoyment of a bingeing is soon replaced with feelings of guilt, revulsion, and self-loathing.

In an effort to regain control and make up for the excess calories eaten, most bulimics purge to make up for their bingeing. So what is the mindset of the bulimic diet?  While purging is intended to counteract binge eating, it ends up reinforcing it. It’s harder to say no to temptation when you think you can avoid the consequences. “This is the last time,” people on the bulimic diet tell themselves as they launch into a new diet. In the back of their minds, however, they know that they can always throw up, pop a water pill, or use laxatives if they lose control again. What they don’t realize is that purging doesn’t come close to wiping the slate clean after a binge.

Purging does NOT prevent weight gain another bulimic diet illusion myth

Contrary to popular belief, purging isn’t very effective at getting rid of calories, which is why the bulimic diet result is usually at the end of the day gaining weight back over time. Vomiting immediately after eating will only eliminate 50% of the calories consumed at best—and usually much less. This is because calorie absorption begins the moment you put food in the mouth. Laxatives and diuretics are even less effective. Laxatives get rid of only 10% of the calories eaten, and diuretics do nothing at all. You may weigh less after taking them, but that lower number on the scale is due to water loss, not true weight loss.

The Bulimic Diet NOT for you? Try These Proven Systems.

People are confused more than ever about how to burn fat.  They are confused about the best way to go about achieving the body they want.  They are confused about what works and what doesn’t, and the reasons why.  There are countless individuals slaving away in gyms and fitness centers around the country right now.

The Mass Confusion Sorrounding Fat Loss

As with a good majority of the things we do in life, we rely heavily on our vision or eyesight as the determining factor in whether or not we believe something.  And this is unfortunately the case in trying to burn fat as well.  What’s the old cliché?  A picture is worth a thousand words, right?

Best Bodybuilding Supplements For Hardgainers

By Vince DelMonte

Listen closely, hardgainers. I’m just like you so you’re not alone. In fact, the majority of bodybuilders are in the “sucky-genetics” category – which is exactly why you got involved in bodybuilding in the first place.

You’re tired of being scrawny and getting blank stares from people when you tell them you body build. You don’t blame them because you find it (just as) hard to believe that you bust your butt in the gym 5 days a week and have little to show.

Our bodies are more suited to be one of those lean, mean, running machines than looking jacked like Hugh Jackman from Wolverine.

Bodybuilding supplement companies exploit and take advantage of your desires by over promising huge gains, “better than steroids” promises and dramatic feats of strength – but you’re starting to believe it’s just a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Or is it?

Yes and no. Supplements are not the key to winning your first bodybuilding show or shocking your friends when you rip your shirt off but they can make a 10% improvement assuming you have your diet, training and lifestyle dialed to the right station.

The secret is to understand there are no best bodybuilding supplements for everyone.

You have to analyze why you’re a hardgainer and then use the bodybuilding supplements that solve your hardgainer problems, rather than using every glitzy supplement in the yard.

But before we address which bodybuilding supplements you need, let me be brutally blunt:

1. Don’t ask me what the best protein supplement is if you’re not eating protein every three hours.

2. Don’t even think of asking me about pre-workout and post-workout protein drinks to buy if you’re not even eating enough calories.

3. Don’t you dare ask me what NO2 product to take if you’re not sleeping 8 hours a night.

4. Don’t even think about asking me what Test booster to take if you’re boozing until four in the morning on weekends.

5. Don’t embarrass yourself and ask what multi vitamin to take if you’re not eating at least 10 serving of fruits and veggies a day.

Take home message before buying any supplements: Always ask yourself, “What am I trying to get this supplement to do that my diet cannot do?”

Bodybuilders knew this before supplements were even invented and relied on the most anabolic hormone available – whole food. Let that sink in for a moment.

I understand that it’s impractical to get bodybuilding amino acids and nutrition into your system in three hour intervals from solid meals every time.

I know that you may in fact be at a 90% threshold in your training, diet and lifestyle which means you’re maximizing every element that you can control naturally.

Now it’s time to bring on board the best bodybuilding supplements that will appeal to the majority. Remember, you need to create your supplement program based on your individual needs but for 90% of the hardgainers reading this, 90% of the time, the bodybuilding supplements below will be a solid foundation to invest in. Here they are:

Creatine

Many guys think that if they take creatine, they’re going to grow. These individuals are extremely misled so it’s vital that you get a better understanding of what creatine will and will not do for you.

What creatine essentially will help you with is putting in the hard work at the gym. It does this by replenishing the high energy compound called creatine phosphate, which the muscles need if they are going to keep contracting with intensity – and you’re going to keep lifting weight.

Once your creatine stores run out, you’re going to feel like you’ve hit a wall with your workout – no matter how much you will yourself to push more weight, it isn’t going to happen.

Some guys will have diets naturally high in creatine (those who eat a high amount of red meat for instance), but on average, most people who are involved with heavy lifting fall short.

Creatine bridges this gap and makes sure that lack of creatine phosphate in your system doesn’t become a problem.

When used properly, it can help you work harder so you can see better results – but it is not going to do the work for you.

Micellar-Isolate Protein Powder

Another supplement that I do recommend to most people is micellar isolate protein powder. When you’re working hard in the gym, your protein needs are going to go up and if you struggle to get enough with food, you could risk not seeing maximum muscle gains.

Protein powder is convenient, it’s cost effective, and it’s great for before, during, and after your workouts.

Just don’t go start replacing all your ’should-be solid food’ meals with protein powder. That I would not recommend.

Choosing micellar isolate protein is the best decision since this is the highest quality form of protein powder and releases much more slowly in the body so you will get a steady stream of amino acids for a longer period of time.

I have personally been experimenting with a variety of micellar isolate protein powders and prefer the variety of amino acid release rates than just one or the other.

Essential Fatty Acids

There is a great deal of research to support the positive health benefits of regularly including essential fatty acids in your day. If you are not eating a higher amount of fatty fish, flaxseeds, or walnuts, chances are you are not getting the essential fatty acids you need.

Using an essential fatty acids supplement makes it incredibly easy to reach your needs and is available in capsule form. Some of the benefits you will receive from a regular intake include enhanced energy, better insulin-glucose control, increased immune system function, mood regulation, and enhanced lean muscle retention and building.

An essential fatty acid supplement is one product that you do not want to miss.

A Greens Product

Finally, the last bodybuilding supplement that you should be taking is some form of greens product. When you’re shooting to gain the types of muscle mass you’re looking to do, you’re going to be eating a very high volume of food – so much that at times you’re going to really struggle to get it in.

This means that you must focus on as calorie dense foods as possible. Unfortunately, that means most whole vegetables are not going to have much of a place on your diet. They will simply fill you up too fast and prevent you from getting the calories in.

But vegetables are extremely important for a healthy body from a vitamin and micronutrient standpoint, and this is where the greens product comes in.

When you take this, you’ll get the nutritional assurance you need while freeing yourself up to focus on those calorie dense food sources that will help you build the lean muscle mass.

Bodybuilding Supplement Tips (Filmed in Las Vegas with Lee Hayward)

Take a few minutes to watch this quick summary of what we just discussed above.  Lee and I filmed it while in Las Vegas recently.  We had a fun time with a great back drop and few laughs too.  I know you’ll like this one.

Got anymore specific bodybuilding supplement questions? Post them below.

Vince.

P.S. I know you guys are going to bombard me with, “Which brand should I take?” And here is my answer because this question used to drive me crazy too.

First off, there is not a best bodybuilding supplement brand. It’s impossible to determine.  Everyone will tell you something different.  You won’t be able to tell the difference (for the most part). And you’ll waste enough to energy to sprint up the CN Tower so do yourself a favor and take MY advice:

You cycle your calories.  You cycle your cardio. You cycle your weight routines.  You cycle the foods you eat so cycle various supplement products too.

In light of adaptation I suggest you cycle various products to maximize your gains and give up the search for the best brand.

If the best bodybuilding supplement brand existed, you would know about it and be using it already.

Video PROOF: Why You Can’t Trust Bodybuilding Supplements

By Vince DelMonte

Over the next few days I’m going to send you some very disturbing video content that, I am confident, will make your blood boil.

I feel it’s necessary to wake you up to the ugly reality of the supplement industry and encourage you with the words my father shares with me, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for everything.”

If you think or already know the supplement industry is scamming you – wait until you watch this 60 second video – you haven’t seen or heard anything yet…

State where your stand on the comments below.

I’ll go first.

1. How did Christian’s comments make YOU feel?

Interestingly, it seemed like this was the first time Christian was ever asked this question as his moral compass started spinning. I do respect him for being honest and not beating around the bush.

My main issue is that a guy like Christian (he’s just one example) may be inspiring thousands of young guys to look like him, but he is also misleading thousands by assuming everyone is trusting and unassuming. He cleverly puts his moral compass back in line by saying

“…you should be smarter than that.”

And he’s absolutely right, you and I should be smarter and not obsessed with instant gratification and supplements that promise to work like fairy dust.

Unfortunately, most guys have to learn the hard way and have to flush a few hundred dollars (or a few thousand dollars) down the drain to see these pills and powders do not work like they promise but it’s too late – the sale has been made and the supplement company has got your money and laughing all the way to the bank and off to create their next “propriety blend” they’ll convince you to buy next month.

You actually think the models and bodybuilders in magazines got muscular and ripped off NO2 and glutamine (just to name two)? They tell you that hard training and certain supplements were the solution, but it’s really anabolic steroids.

2. What are YOU going to do about it?

I’ll tell you what I’m doing first.

I’ve been preaching against the supplement scams the past 6 years ever since I learned about the supplement mafia but I think we easily forget because we are obsessed with a society that glorifies instant gratification and the desperate thought that,

“Maybe this one will work…”

I made my stand in 2002 – it’s quite simple.

I vote with my dollar by not spending money on any bogus supplements and will not experiment with anything until I see it stand the test of time and be on the market for at least 3 years (IMO, that’s the best test).

I only introduce a few bodybuilding supplements (BCAA’s, creatine, caffeine) that have been proven to work when I hit a 90% threshold in my training, diet and lifestyle. I don’t expect them to get me to that point, just to give me an extra edge when I’m 10% away from my goal.

Are you going to stand for something or keep falling for everything?

Share away…

P.S. Today’s and the next few blog posts have all been (re)inspired by the latest documentary by Chris Bell called Bigger, Stronger, Faster I highly, highly recommend you make it your next rental or google search it and start watching the deleted scenes online.

15 Tips To Help You Enjoy Your Bench Training Program

Posted by Dreamer On January - 13 - 2010 Comments

You want to look at your bench press journey as a ride, and when its over, look back and say, “Woooo, what a f*ckin ride!” The bench press is quite the ride – It’s scary, it’s intense, it brings satisfaction and is very hardcore!

In a matter of 15 years you go from someone who can’t bench the bar to benching a bar loaded with a dozen 45 lb. plates. The journey to get there requires lots of pain and sacrifices that must be made.

It doesn’t have to be a suffrage – the bench press lifestyle can be one of the most exciting ones in existence if your outlook is wise.

Follow these tips so you can go far, overcome fears and enjoy every second climbing the bench press ladder.

1 – Enjoy All Accomplishments.

If you’re a beginner benching 135, an intermediate benching 315, or even an advanced bencher benching 675 for the first time, you’ll simply amaze yourself! You get off the bench, celebrate, and think “Holy Sh*t!”

The animal desire will be burning and you’ll be ready to take your benching to the next level and then the next!

This will only build confidence to blast through any bench press obstacle you will face in your quest to becoming that bench press super star you always wanted to be!

2 – Enjoy The Highs & Learn From The Lows.

If you have the determination and bravery to attempt… beginner or pro – feel good about it. (Bravery is doing things even when you know you will lose.) Anyone who ever amounted to something in benching has experienced successes and failure. Remember though, the only moments that can’t be remembered or enjoyed are the ones never attempted.

It’s not even about the temporary failures anyway; it’s the whole journey. If you miss a weight, a new path opens, same as if you succeed. Free yourself from the success/failure mindset and take it all as a great learning experience!

3 – It’s The Big Picture That Matters Most.

    • You alone with the bench; It’s war; the 3 most intense seconds of your life; it can give you a feeling that nothing else can. Setting personal records and breaking your records time after time after time. The things you see, the people you meet, the adrenaline rush, the training partners yelling your name and exploding personal records, time after time – The bench press is the continuous feeling of Victory!!!
  • It’s the journey that counts. Most people find their favorite places to be Florida or Mexico. Benchers on the other hands favorite place is being alone on a bench with the bar loaded and smashing past personal records! It isn’t just the max attempt that is important – It is man vs. the bar; survival of the physically and mentally strong; the attitude of will – It’s the sacrifice it takes to get there is what brings benchers the ultimate satisfaction when the moment comes to conquer a goal.

4 – We Can Be A Great Bencher At Any Age!

Just fall in love with the sport – The bench press is an exercise that just about anyone can do. It’s a lift where you can only get better if you prepare well and train hard.

Most of all the bench press is a great way to stay competitive against yourself while you go through your teens, and throughout life. Your age does not matter!

5 – Allow The Bench Press To Make You A Better Person.

The bench press is a lot like life in that you must overcome many small obstacles to realize your final goals.

Whether it is a world record holder, a champion athlete, achieving a bigger upper body and most of all if you have the guts to bench, you will have the guts to attempt anything!

This is great because in life, as it is relative, we all have strengths and weaknesses depending on the environment that we are in.

Benching teaches us to be humble, hard working and open minded; we can carry these tools to other areas of our lives and accomplish more than we could ever imagine.

Need Supplements BUT You’re Broke? Don’t let that stop you! Choose from 50 DIFFERENT SUPPLEMENTS UNDER $15 at Bodybuilding.com.

6 – The Only Person You Have To Beat Is Yourself.

Many of us became lifters because we have egos that rejected what we once were or from negative experiences. The lean guy rejects the fat guy, the fat guy rejects the fitness guy so we meet this internal pain called shadows. We must remember though: if an ecto walked in the super heavy weights shoes then he would have been different. If he was put in an ectos shoes then his experiences with training would have been very different as well.

    What Does Ecto Mean?
Ectomorph (ecto) is a body type. Ectomorphs have short upper bodies, long arms/legs, long/narrow feet and hands, very little fat, narrow chest and shoulders, and long thin muscles. Ectomorphs are very hard gainers.

We must remember that we are all the same and the only way to be internally healthy is to feel whole; negative experiences ruin that wholeness.

By understanding and making the journey, a battle against ourselves is the best thing we can do – for we only have our own bodies and styles that we must beat to move on!

    Bottom line:
Make the bench press journey a battle against yourself! Support your buddies and realize we are all in this together! If you worry about everyone else, you will lose track of yourself and go through your bench press quest in a state of hate and pain.

7 – Never Settle.

I hear people say “I want to bench 315 and then I will quit.” Or after I hit xxx weight, I will train easy and only do sets and reps. it doesn’t work like that! If you’re training with 185×5 now and are attempting 225×1.

By the time you get to 315 you’re going to want to rep it 3 times! Then you will be adding 10s and screaming, “350, here I come and nothing is going to stop me!!

You will crank up the volume, practice your mental imagery and by the time you step into the gym you will set yourself on fire. Then, 400, 425, 450 will come. It only gets bigger from there!

8 – Take Advantage Of Whatever You Can

There is training information out everywhere. From Critical Bench, Westside Barbell, Top lifters making customized programs, strength coaches, videos, interviews, articles, training programs and just about any great is willing to teach you what it takes to bench more.

You decide, what’s more important? $50 or bench press excellence that will last a lifetime. If you take advantage of what’s out there you will learn and you will be on the path to being a champion.

Your desire, drive, determination, discipline, dedication, intensity, integrity and intelligence will take care of the rest!

9 – You Can’t Be The Best At Everything

RELATED PRODUCT
Strength Flat Bench
Compact, Low To The Ground Design For Easy Access And Comfort!
To be great at anything you will have to give things up: Too many people try being a bench press star, having the greatest mile time, being the biggest, the most ripped, fastest and the best athlete all at the same time. You can’t have all and if you want a big bench you have to make great sacrifices.

It’s give to gain, as everything requires a different talent. It’s a battle of desires and you must let the desire you want most win out and win big! So stop dreaming of being 6′2 and 450lbs of muscle and beating Lance Armstrong in bike races.

What you feed grows and what you ignore diminishes. Pick a goal, then hit that goal and decide where to go from there.

10 – Set Direct Goals.

It’s simple to get anywhere you need to know where you are going. If you train to 225 every workout, you stay there! “If you never quit and keep striving,
this is the making of a champion”

Try to cycle your workouts; add weight to the bar, do a speed day with the bungee bands, make weaker muscles stronger, get stronger throughout the range of motion and soon 225 will be 255, 275, 300, and so on.

11 – Use Fear To Your Advantage To Go To The Next Level.

Sometimes we fear to go to the next level. I think it’s basic, “ectos are scared to lose their 6 packs, big guys fear being weak for their size, or simply put, it’s easier to just walk around looking big without having to back it up.” The bottom line is: the ones who aren’t afraid to be different, who are willing to be freaks, who every time they step into the gym get insane in the head and think “Welcome to Hell,” get in the zone, turn the volume up and turn into lions, attacking the bench every time, will bench big!

12 – Run Away From Mental Barriers.

In benching we want to move ahead but some people get freaked out by “225″ or “405.” This is called “Mental Barriers.”

Mental barriers come partially from the way one was raised, genetics, past failures and because they don’t know how to over power the subconscious part of the brain (as it doesn’t really think on a conscious level).

Some try to overcome it with trickery, but that is a temporary solution. The 2 best ways to overcome mental blocks:

1 – Practice The Single!!!

The single strengthens all your attachments, perfects your form and builds confidence.

2 – Treat Every Single Weight The Same.

If it’s the bar say “I’m gonna explode it.” You should be so focused on the setup that there is no way you can let the weight scare you! You visualize, picture yourself lifting the weight, let the monster (internal motivation) build and save it all for the exact moment (when you’re lifting the weight).

With proper setup, internal motivation and practice you shall be confident and ready to go to the next level. With time, habits and experience you can conquer just about anything!

13 – Don’t Believe In Magic Answers.

Many people believe “if you do this exercise you will get super strong.” “If you take this supplement, you will be strong.” The mindset that goes deeper into the “gym talk” gets confused and gets farther away from the “gym gains.” People get so wrapped up in information they lose track of what’s really most important! It’s not the bench shirt, it’s not the supplement, it’s not the pros routine. It’s simple: for anything to work, you must work and make them work!

14 – I Know Benching Hurts, But…

Don’t think of it as you vs. pain. Think of pain as your friend!! You need to use it all to your advantage!! Most of us think that you should think, “Pain is nothing, and I’m going to conquer it while it’s happening.”

In reality you are just playing with aspects of pain and fighting it.You don’t fight it, you go along with it.

Same with fear – Stay in the moment and realize you are powerful: when you are trying to mess with power/fear that is a great way to cause mental blocks fast!

Let everything work for you!!! And then you can have the heart and drive of a wild animal!

15 - Putting It All Together.

You know what it takes to bench big and you want to enjoy it. So let’s put it all together, the internal pieces to loving that wild bench press ride…

  1. Enjoy All Accomplishments
    Always celebrate.
  2. Lose The Success / Failure Mindset
And replace it with an enlightened learning experience mindset.
  3. It’s The Big Picture That Matters!
Mess ups are temporary, so remember to always be proud of what you have become and that you’re giving it your all.
  4. Anyone Can Enjoy The Bench Press.
    From a 15 yr old to 30 to 70. It’s a lifetime battle.
  5. Allow The Bench To Make You Stronger In All Aspects Of Life.
If you can bench you shouldn’t fear trying to get a job or approaching women. Confidence takes you a long way.
  6. The Only Person You Have To Beat Is Yourself.
This saves you from the stress of putting down others and you’ll make greater gains as you are more in the zone with your own body and training.
  7. Never Quit
Gains take time and really do add up, stay patient.
  8. Take Advantage Of Whatever You Can.
Learn from the guys who came before you.
  9. You Can’t Be The Best At Everything.
Benching is benching and nothing else. A Chinese proverb said, “The person who tries to chase 2 rabbits usually catches neither.”
  10. Set Direct Goals
You can’t go from 135 to 700 if you don’t have direction to get there.
  11. Use Fear To Your Advantage.
Think of it like this… are you more of a monster before you bench or when you make your bed? That’s what I thought. Turn fear into attitude!
  12. Run Away from Mental Barriers.
Benching is extreme; if you can’t believe to achieve in benching then go bodybuild.
  13. Don’t Believe In Magic Answers.
If it was easy, having a big bench wouldn’t mean anything.
  14. Make Pain Your Friend.
If you can’t you will lose desire and burn out.
  15. Last
Keep adding layers, shades and positive experiences to your views! And it will only get better… there is no end to learning. Training is always evolving and we all have something to offer.

Follow these attitudes and you will learn to love the bench press and the training! It’s the only way to survive! Keep smiling and destroying all personal records, and remember to smile and laugh every time you do it!

Now step into the bench with that ‘positive-crazy-warrior’ mind set that you always wanted!

Inspire Greatness A Warriors Wisdom

Posted by Dreamer On January - 12 - 2010 Comments

What is the warrior lifestyle? The true warrior is a rare person in today’s world. He lives life with a different set of values compared with the rest of society. Even those who do share the same values, rarely live a lifestyle which adheres to those values to the extent that the warrior does. To most people, ethics are situational. They make decisions according to what is best for them, instead of what is right. This is not the case with the warrior. The warrior values honor, integrity, justice, and his sense of what is right, above all else. His ethics are not situational; they are his way of life.

The warrior lifestyle revolves around a code of ethics which is non-negotiable. The warrior’s code of ethics, or code of honor, is taken very seriously. To the warrior, distinguishing between right and wrong is of the utmost importance. He sees right and wrong in terms of black and white. He knows that an action is either honorable or dishonorable. This is not meant to imply that honor is black and white; honor is not that simple.

Those who live the lifestyle of the warrior know that whether or not an action is honorable, is determined by both one’s intentions and the situation at hand. This is not to be confused with situational ethics. The warrior’s ethics do not change according to the situation. His actions will change as needed, but his ethics remain set in stone. There is a big difference between ethics and actions. Ethics determine actions; actions do not determine ethics.

The warrior lifestyle is concerned with what is right and what is honorable. A warrior’s ethics revolve around these two issues. Justice and honor are foremost on his mind. His thoughts are centered on “what is right,” not on other people’s opinions of what is right. He realizes that many people profess a belief in absolutes which they neither live by, nor truly believe in, when push comes to shove.

The only absolute that the warrior lives by is that of what is right and wrong. If it is not right, he doesn’t do it. He determines what is right and wrong by his strict code of ethics, not some arbitrary laws or the politically correct standards of the day. The warrior doesn’t appear to be honorable; he is honorable. Sincerity is ingrained in this lifestyle. This is a lifestyle that is meant to be lived, not fantasized about or merely discussed.

This lifestyle consist of much more than being trained in the art of war or the art of self-defense, although these are an important part of the life of the warrior. It also consists of the challenge to perfect one’s character. This is a process much like the Japanese concept of kaizen. Kaizen can be translated as constant, never-ending improvement. True warriors try to apply this concept to every area of their life. They seek to balance and improve each area – spirit, mind and body, on a daily basis.

Each area of your life is important and should be kept in balance. Training men in the art of war or in the art of martial arts, without regard to character, only produces a dangerous man; it does not produce a warrior. In years past, the martial arts masters would not train someone fully until they felt assured of that person’s character. Today most schools will train anyone who can pay, regardless of their character or lack of character. This is dangerous information to give to just any and everyone who comes along. In my opinion, character should be a prerequisite, not only for martial arts training, but for many of the privileges which we enjoy in this country.

I am asked often whether or not I believe that the term “warrior” should apply only to military men and women who have been in war or to trained and experienced fighters. Although I realize this is the literal definition of a warrior, I do not believe that this is the correct definition, not according to the many accounts from past warriors anyway. This literal definition of a warrior is not the definition that is used for our discussion of the warrior lifestyle in Warrior Wisdom. An ape can be trained to throw punches and kick, a dog can be trained to fight, but that doesn’t make either of them warriors. Being a warrior involves more than being trained to fight or being in the military; it involves character training as well. Character training is the true goal of Bushido, the way of the warrior.

Please don’t misunderstand me; I have great respect for our military men and women. But I believe that anyone who has ever served in the military will agree that not every soldier lives by the character traits which are necessary for the warrior lifestyle, anymore than every martial artist or every person in general lives by these standards. I’m not taking anything away from those who serve our country. Every person who serves our country deserves our respect and gratitude, but service doesn’t necessarily indicate that a person is concerned with perfecting his or her character. It is rare to find people who take their ethics seriously today. It is common to find people who claim to take their ethics seriously, but I am referring to people who walk to the walk, not just “talk the talk.”

Yes, the warrior is concerned with physical training and the martial arts, but he also knows that character training is the cornerstone of the warrior lifestyle. The true warrior should be trained in martial arts. His ethics require that he be ready to defend his family, friends, or himself in certain situations. In today’s world, you never know when you may have to use your martial arts skills. It is essential that you have this training to be as self-reliant and as safe as possible, but without a code of ethics, which is based on a deep understanding of right and wrong, there is no warrior; there is only someone trained to fight. There is a difference. Without the character traits of honor, integrity and justice, there is no warrior lifestyle.

In short, the warrior lifestyle is for anyone who want to live a life of excellence; a life which adheres to a strict code of ethics. You must be willing to live your life based on honor, preparedness and what is right. This lifestyle requires that you put your ethics before your comfort, and that you put what is right before what is profitable. It requires filial duty, dedication to family and friends, and a willingness to help those in need. It requires independence in thought and action. This lifestyle is a decision, not a profession.

This is just a brief introduction to the lifestyle of the warrior. Each of these points can be greatly expanded and I understand that not everyone will agree with my assessment. Even if you disagree with my definition of a warrior or the characteristics of the warrior lifestyle, you will still find the wisdom in this book to be very useful. Warrior Wisdom seeks to provide the reader with wisdom from throughout the ages that will help him live the warrior lifestyle. This lifestyle is not a goal to be achieved, but rather a road to be traveled. May you travel this road with honor.

What are probiotics and why do I need them?

Probiotics are beneficial microflora that play a critical role in maintaining good health.

* Healthy human intestines contain billions of both good and potentially harmful microorganisms. The good bacteria in the intestines are considered to be an integral part of normal immune system support.
Probiotics are important because they can synthesize certain vitamins and short-chain fatty acids to support a healthy intestinal lining and bolster immunity.

* When your intestinal lining is occupied by healthy beneficial flora, it deprives unwelcome microorganisms of both space and nutrients.
Healthy people usually have a ratio of approximately 85% good to 15% potentially harmful organisms in the intestinal tract. In some cases, even those who appear to be well might have an unfavorable ratio as a result of daily exposure to environmental toxins and a modern lifestyle. For example, taking antibiotics or drinking chlorinated water may change the optimal microbial balance essential for good health.
Garden of Life believes that probiotics are most beneficial when they are not separated from their food source. Primal Defense &, unlike isolated probiotic products, contains fermented whole foods and multiple strains of beneficial probiotics in the form of the Homeostatic & Soil Organism Probiotic Blend.

The Power of Your Words

Posted by Dreamer On January - 11 - 2010 Comments

The Power of your words:

By Tollie Schmidt

Act with faith. Prepare the way for your inevitable success. To the degree you can, behave as if your dreams have already come true, as if you already owned a Love, as if later today you were going to Be on Oprah. And you shall see the power you wield as the floodgates begin to tremble, the elements begin to conspire, people in your life begin to change, insights are summoned, comprehensions soar, and clarity is born.

Not to mention fierce, wild animals laying down when you pass by -
Tollie…

Growing up, I of course was the fat kid. Words, teasing, name calling and down right torment was a daily theme. It actually consumed me enough I changed schools. Then I realized how much control I was allowing others to have on me. Basically, at that moment excuse my reference, “I grew a set”! I don’t have a insecurity issue, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today or have been able to help all the people I have if any of these words or labels were true. Besides, it’s fun to see their faces as I continue to move forward and walls fall, and they see how wrong they were. So, I hope the following article might help you.

Most of us underestimate the power of our words. We sometimes miss how our words set a tone. A few words can make someone’s day, or shatter it. Words can inspire someone to buy, or to go away without buying. Our words can move someone to do their best work, or to work against us. Your spoken words serve either to build up or to tear down. They serve to empower and inspire, or to disempower and hurt. Words are either life affirming or destructive. For this reason we should choose our words carefully. “The word is the most powerful tool you have as a human…like a sword it has two edges, your word can create the most beautiful dream, or your word can destroy everything around you.” (The Four Agreements, Don Miquel Ruiz)

When you are talking to someone ask yourself this question: “Who am I being and what is the impact of my words on the people around me?” The power of your words lies in the intention behind them. Is it your intention to create a resolution or to be right? Do you intend to help the organization accomplish its mission or to satisfy the need to take someone down? We communicate best when we are clear about who we are and what we intend. This kind of clarity prevents us from saying words that are harmful to ourselves and others. It may prevent us from engaging in harmful gossip and complaining.

Gossip is usually destructive. It is often a careless use of our words. We just aren’t thinking about how we are affecting others. Sometimes gossip is mean spirited and intended to cause hurt. Whether gossip is careless or intentional, it causes pain. We may be hoping for a little humor or self justification, but the results of gossip are anger, suspicion, embarrassment, and fear. These creations of gossip negatively affect morale, service, and productivity. You cannot both care about someone and gossip about them. If you think back to the last time you either heard or offered gossip, it probably didn’t make you feel good. Gossip disempowers us.

Similar to gossip is chronic complaining. Complaining about people and situations makes us feel and look powerless. Managers who complain in front of their employees lose credibility as leaders. Chronic complaining leads us into a dead end street where there is nothing to be done. We become victims who are powerless to change anything. While venting frustrations to a trusted friend can be helpful in releasing negative feelings, complaining to everyone tends to reinforce negative feelings. Like gossip, chronic complaining disempowers us.

Our power to do harm is exceeded only by our power to do good. A simple, sincere apology (given without expectation of return) can heal a relationship. An uplifting word at the right moment can change a life, launch a career, or convince someone to go beyond perceived limitations. By consciously looking for evidence of greatness in others, and by using our words to tell them, we help others to build confidence. When we sincerely speak well of others we uplift ourselves.

There is great power in making the commitment to keeping our words as positive and life affirming as we are able. As an affirming presence our influence grows. We feel better about ourselves. Constant negative speech imprisons us and prevents us from finding joy and success. Developing the habit of speaking well of self and others frees us to enjoy life more. We become a blessing to ourselves and to others.

Our spoken words originate from our thoughts. The best way to increase the positive power of our spoken words is to clean up our thinking. We must become willing to think well of ourselves. Constant self criticism needs to become unacceptable. We free ourselves to think and speak well of others by thinking well of ourselves.

Consider practicing the following:

• Affirm life in your thoughts and your words. (To affirm life is to build up, to nurture, to support, and to bless)

• Refuse to gossip. Commit to saying only words that are uplifting or helpful to others.

• Refuse to listen to gossip. Compassionately tell others it is beneath them to gossip.

• Refuse to indulge in complaining about another person.

• Refuse to dwell on self critical thoughts. Learn from mistakes and move on.

• Intentionally look for positive qualities to think about yourself. Make a list often.

• Intentionally look for positive qualities in others. Tell them.

• Don’t take the words of others personally. Their words are more about them than about you. Let go of your grudges and your hurts and wish others well. This practice will make you happier.

• Do not allow negative emotion to control you. Accept it. Be willing to let it go. Stop feeding it with negative words. Choose words that will refocus you on who you are and what you really want.

Gossip and complaining are distractions and a misuse of your energy. Decide what you really want and apply your energy to it. As you become more life affirming in your thoughts and words you will experience more joy and success, and your sense of well-being will affect others. More people will trust you and want to help you. Your life will change. Affirm life with your thoughts and words and you will find that your organization, your family, your community, and you will benefit greatly.

Remember, you’ve literally been performing miracles your entire life.

Consciously, deliberately, and with calculated precision.
You get that from the mojo!,
Tollie

Relationships – How to Not Let the Past Control Your Future

Posted by Dreamer On January - 11 - 2010 Comments

When you can look beneath their behavior that hurt you, and you can see the frightened child – it becomes nearly impossible to be angry and carry a grudge.

If you are one of the lucky ones who are in a relationship then be sure to hold onto it and not jinx it. Today, very few individuals are lucky enough to be in relationships that will last for a while and may be even blossom into a marriage down the line. If you are in search for one, maybe you need to take care of certain things so that your past relationships will not dictate how your life is going to go in the future.

Firstly, to successfully be in a relationship, you need to learn to let go. This is especially true in case of people who have had bad experience dating in the past and are on a self destructive path now. Learn to not let the wrong incidents dictate who you are. It is important to understand that be in a relationship, the couple has to fully open up to each other and not let emotional baggage go unmentioned. If there is something that worries you, speak up and don’t let it affect your current relationship as well.

On the flipside, if you are trying to change the person you are dating instead of yourself, then that too is definitely not a sign of a relationship. Some people have this tendency of trying to recreate what they do and end up losing everything altogether. This is especially true in case of individuals who have lost their half unnaturally and have not yet healed from the fact. Building relationships is very challenging for such people because they simply don’t know how to go about finding a new person to build a new bond with.

Another aspect that may be preventing you from being in a relationship is probably come to quick conclusions. This is seen often in people who have had too many problematic relationships in the past. People who fall in this category come to a fast judgment without getting all the facts right. The quickly try to label the person they are dating and consecutively never really experience the true relationship.

Remember that maintaining a relationship is about looking forward to the future and having faith in the person. You can’t expect to be in committed relationships if you are hiding too many things from your partner. It is probably the reason why you may be finding it tough to be in a relationship.

Keep what’s in the past in the past. You can’t fix things that are already passed so focus your attention and life on your current relationship. If you were immature in the past, then start now and learn to lead your heart. Lead your heart to invest in the other person, to give yourself without requirement and to serve your partner with dignity and respect. Right now is the only moment you have control over, so make it count.

Also, always keep this in mind.

Without “blame,” at least 50% of all grounded relationships would have continued sailing.
And I’m all for sailing.

Your first mate,
Tollie

How Chemicals in the Meat You Eat Can Hurt You

Posted by Dreamer On January - 11 - 2010 Comments

If you’re wondering whether chemicals are really present in your food, the answer is clear: most meats and other foods sold in the United States today contain a cocktail of trace amounts of chemicals, from pesticides to synthetic growth hormones.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, our country’s meat supply contains the residues of 500 to 600 different chemicals.  The debate isn’t about whether they’re there, but how much harm they cause humans, especially because the FDA only monitors some of these chemicals.

What are the possible risks?

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) recently released its latest “Smart Guide” covering the issue of hormones in the food system. Here’s a list of some of the types of chemicals that find their way onto our plates and into our bodies:

o   hormone growth promoters given to food animals

o   hormone-active pesticides sprayed on food crops

o   hormone plastic additives in baby bottles, infant formula cans or other food packaging

o   hormone disruptors that build up in the food chain (like brominated flame retardants)

According to the Guide: “[E]ver-strengthening science links exposure to many individual hormone disruptors —pesticides, Teflon chemicals, plasticizers and food contaminants—with these common or rising chronic conditions, including:

o   Breast and prostate cancer

o   Thyroid disease

o   Obesity and diabetes

o   Endometriosis, uterine fibroids and infertility

o   Immune-related disease, such as asthma or allergies.

Why are hormones and other chemicals used in food production?

Certain synthetic hormones can make young animals gain weight faster. They help reduce the waiting time and the amount of feed eaten by an animal before slaughter in meat industries. Pesticides are used on farms to protect crops – including grain used for feed – from insects.

Does organic meat contain chemicals?

Even organic meats and organic produce aren’t completely free of toxic chemicals. Contaminants leach into the land, water, and air around the globe. But certified organic livestock are never given antibiotics or synthetic hormones such as the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone. Their feed is organic and vegetarian. Organic farmers use natural methods to control pests. By eating all-organic meats, you also limit your intake of genetically modified foods, because organic farmers cannot raise genetically modified crops or livestock or use production aids that are genetically modified.

Is organic meat better for the environment, too?

Well-balanced soil is the foundation of healthy, nutritious food. Conventional farming depletes the soil over time. Organic farmers use practices that replenish and build healthy soil. They also protect the water supply. Eliminating polluting chemicals and nitrogen leaching, in combination with soil building, prevents contamination and protects and conserves water resources. Organic farmers use green manures and crop covers, too, rather than synthetic fertilizers made from petroleum.

Choosing organic is a great way to take care of the people you care about. You can nourish yourself, your family, and the planet by supporting sustainable farming practices and eating foods that are truly good for you.

Greensbury Market brings you certified organic meat for less. Buy now and save on our delicious variety pack!

ORGANIC VS. NATURAL MEATS

Greensbury Market never refers to our meats as natural. That’s because we’ve chosen a much higher standard: organic.

There are no official guidelines for natural foods. The only way we can promise our customers a truly superior product is to embrace the USDA’s very strict guidelines for certified organic meats. Look for the USDA seal on our package. What this means to you:

  • organic farmers do not use antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones.
  • organic meat comes from animals that are given 100 percent organic feed.
  • organic animals are given access to the outdoors and/or pastures.
  • organic farms do no use most conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation.
  • organic farmers emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations.
  • organic farms are inspected by a Government-approved certifier to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic meats must be certified, too.

For more information about certified organic foods and farms, you can visit the USDA website at www.usda.gov.

When it Comes to Changing Your Body – Talk is Cheap

Posted by Dreamer On January - 10 - 2010 Comments

I get irritated when I hear people saying one thing and doing another (as I’m sure this might irritate you as well).

This happens all the time and especially when it comes to changing the look and shape of your body.

When it comes to building muscle and losing fat, talk it cheap. Action is where it’s at.

If you say “I want to lose weight” but you never actually lose any weight…well then what you’re really saying is “I’d like to lose weight but I don’t want to do all the things it takes to actually lose the weight, so I’ll just talk about it instead”

The people who actually lose weight just do it, and don’t talk much about it.

Same with building muscle. If you say “I want to build muscle” but you never go to the gym and put in the tough workouts and push through every painful rep then what you’re really saying is “I’d like bigger muscles but I don’t want to stick to a workout program and put the effort in the gym that is required to get there”.

I’ve learned to tune out the people who are all talk and only focus on helping the people who really want to take action.

For most things in life talk is cheap, and action is where it’s at.
