A Dream Come True

As I laid beside you and watched you sleep
facing away on your side
I watched your shoulder rise and fall
your silhouette so beautiful it made me weep

So beautiful you are to me
if only in my heart you could see
I wonder always if your heart
thinks the same of me

My tears are the happiest I’ve known
no more waiting for you to call by phone
no more wondering if I’d always be alone
like a castaway, uncertain and unknown

I move closer to you and peel back the sheet
which lay like rose petals upon your body whole
‘cept your torso and your soft warm feet
as the moonlight sheens on your hair of dark coal

Oh how I love you so completely
I wish you could feel the passion
of loving a woman who brings so much joy
long after romance went out of fashion

I slide closer to you and feel all your warm heat
and like a puzzle we fit making us complete
I kiss you gently on the side of your neck
lingering there and feeling your rhythmic heartbeat

Dear God I think to my self, thank you for your kindness
to grace me with a woman so soft I do not deserve
If you struck me dead at this moment it would be OK
Just promise me Lord that with me always she will stay

Because this beautiful woman is my true wife
not the one who mistreated and squandered my life
This was always where my heart belonged
part of her heart and the lyrics in her song

You cannot love a woman truly unless you feel her soul
and listen to all that she is and is trying to be
its only then that you understand why you’re one
the way kindness and love meat to be free

And now I feel the touch of her soft hair
against the back of my hand
such a feeling I’d never forget
I love her more than words, the closer I get

her face glistens like morning dew
and each delicate feature has its own hue
her dark skin seems to reflect in shade of blue
matching the color of my heart and making it feel new

My nose in her hair, my hand most gently
touching her beautiful head and cheeks
and with my fingertip ever so softly against her lips
my heart inside is beating and doing back flips

she stirs and awakens and the lips smile so softly
my heart melts a thousand times when our eyes meet
in the cloud that fills the room and my heart
I realize Im just in love with her and of her feel a part

In half dream half sleep we meet
though I didn’t intend to wake her
she turns and kisses me and I kiss her so softly
and we in that moment are just one body one love

An alarm rings
I open my eyes
and realize I was only dreaming
I think I’ll go back to sleep
