Slimming Down And Losing Weight Dieting? Time For A Little Buddy Fitness Tip

24 March, 2009 - Blog, Uncategorized

I have noticed the gym becoming a little busier lately. Although, I don’t personally train people anymore I still get a lot of questions. So, since the spike in gym activity might be because summer is right around the corner, here is a tip. Find a little buddy and together have some fun at the gym.

Tollie Schmidt lived his life as the fat kid. His weight reached over 500 pounds. Losing over 300 pounds of fat, Tollie struggled with bulimia and became a personal trainer. Today, Tollie’s a highly sought after International Speaker, Author, Producer and Dreamer. Today our Youth have a voice for change. (Empowering Greatness for a Dream-Infused Life).

You may not have set any exercise goals back in January, but chances are you will now, what with summer and more revealing clothes, right around the corner. One strategy that can help you get in shape fast while upping the fun factor. Find a workout partner. It makes you accountable to someone, so you’re more apt to show up; it helps you pass the time on the treadmill; it can prompt you to push yourself. To maximize your workout relationships, follow my little buddy tips.

Choose the right person. Whether it’s a friend, a relative, or a member of your running club, look for someone who’s excited about working out and who seems knowledgeable about fitness. Notice I didn’t mention exercising with your boyfriend or girlfriend. Generally, I don’t think it’s wise to work out with your significant other. Hitting the gym at the same time is fine, but in my experience, coaching each other can cause more conflict than it’s worth.

Use your partner for strength and flexibility moves. Sure, they can spot you on the chest press, but put them to work! Toss a medicine ball to each other, grab tubing and let the other person provide extra resistance, or work your abs using the medicine ball as resistance, force, and weight. Many exercises can be used with a medicine ball and your little buddy, and they’re killer, you will feel your results.

Challenge each other on cardio machines. Notice I said challenge, don’t talk to someone else on the phone, or text, because all your doing is really annoying people like myself. Take turns doing intervals, you rest while they sprint. Or grab a hold of side-by-side rowing machines and race each other to see whom finishes 500 meters first. This is an ideal opportunity to push your limits and have some friendly competition spur you on.

Play follows the leader. Oh how I never was good at this little game. Tired of thinking of new routines every time you go to the gym? Let your little buddy do it for you. Ask them to pick the workout you’ll both do, or you lead a set of one weight move and have her lead the next exercise.

Use each other for inspiration. Talk about the changes you’re seeing to encourage the other person. Or use your partner’s good results to fuel your motivation. Just remember, you’re not competing to see who gets the best body.

Let your friend be strong when your not. If you go out for a post-workout dinner and are tempted by the fettuccine Alfredo, let her order something healthy for you. I used to do this for a lot of my old clients. However, eating a big meal after a strenuous workout is not the best idea.
